6WIND Announces Availability of Packet Processing Software Optimized for Cavium’s Market-Leading OCTEON® II CN68XX Processor Family

PARIS, France, October 10, 2011 — 6WIND, the industry standard for commercial multicore packet processing software, today announced the availability of its 6WINDGate™ software with optimized support for the 32-core OCTEON® II CN68XX processor family from Cavium, Inc. [NASDAQ: CAVM], a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, and the digital home. Already used by OEMs in a wide range of products based on earlier OCTEON and OCTEON Plus processors, 6WINDGate enables the development of best-in-class cloud networking and mobile infrastructure equipment.

Designers of next-generation networking equipment are required to achieve line rates up to 40Gbps while providing support for intelligent networking, advanced security protocols and energy reduction. To address these requirements, 6WINDGate leverages the OCTEON II’s extensive on-chip dedicated hardware acceleration blocks for intelligent networking and advanced security functions. For typical network traffic, 6WINDGate delivers a total throughput of 40Gbps on IP Forwarding or IPsec, using only a few of the cores available on a single 32-core, 1.5GHz CN68XX processor. Remaining cores can be used to run additional value-added networking features or applications. The architecture of 6WINDGate ensures that the per-core performance scales linearly with the number of cores running 6WINDGate until the platform achieves full wire speed.

Close cooperation between experts at 6WIND and Cavium, together with the robust architecture of the 6WINDGate software that incorporates stable, proven APIs, result in the early availability of 6WINDGate support for the OCTEON II architecture. Tools such as Cavium’s OCTEON simulator enabled 6WIND to accelerate the porting process and perform initial development work before the availability of hardware platforms.
