Hughes Demonstrates Global Leadership in Satellite Technology at Asia/Pacific Regional Seminar in Singapore

GERMANTOWN, Md., June 22 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the world’s leading provider of broadband satellite networks and services, presented its latest technology offerings at its seminar in Singapore on June 16, held during the CommunicAsia2010 conference and exhibition. More than 150 participants representing customers, service providers, system integrators, and satellite operators attended and heard presentations by Hughes executives covering a full spectrum of advanced Ka- and Ku-band technologies and customer success stories in the region.

“Since its inception, Hughes has been committed to the Asia/Pacific marketplace and has established an enviable base of customers, as evidenced by the attendees at this seminar,” said Robert Feierbach, vice president of global sales and marketing, International Division at Hughes, who was a keynote speaker at the event. “Together, we are bringing high-quality broadband satellite connectivity to businesses, government agencies, schools, and homes across the region, helping to close the digital divide and grow the economy.”

Hendra Gunawan, satellite system engineer at Telkom Indonesia, the largest telecommunications company and network provider in Indonesia, presented an overview of its satellite-related businesses, including transponder leasing, trunking, broadcasting, and broadband IP using VSATs.

“We have been working with Hughes for the past seven (7) years and operate both HN and HX systems,” said Gunawan. “The Hughes technology enables us to offer a variety of services such as Internet/Intranet, VPNs, GSM backhaul, video conferencing, Universal Service Obligation (USO), disaster recovery and emergency services. One project we are particularly proud of is ‘Jardiknas,” the National Education Network, where we provide broadband connectivity to more than 250 sites for online MIS education, science and technology research and development and Internet access and e-learning.”

High Capacity, Dual Ka/Ku-Band Platform

Hughes unveiled the HN9400, the newest member of its market-leading family of routers, designed to deliver the maximum performance on today’s Ku or Ka-band platforms, while being future-proof for next-generation, high-throughput systems. The powerful HN9400 supports up to 60 Mbps of throughput on the forward channel and is fully compliant with IPoS/DVB-S2/ACM, the world’s most successful satellite industry standard. Incorporating advanced adaptive LDPC coding on the return channel, the HN9400 provides up to 20 percent improvement in link performance, thereby enabling very efficient use of satellite capacity. Capable of operating in Ka- or Ku-bands and with upstream rates of up to 3 Mbps, the HN9400 is an ideal platform to deliver even the most bandwidth-demanding services on today’s and future satellites.

Global Services and Solutions

Hughes owns and operates service businesses around the globe, providing high-speed Internet access and a wide range of broadband enterprise solutions delivered over 22 satellites and 100 transponders, including its own SPACEWAY(R) 3 Ka-band satellite in North America.
