Siemon Interconnect Solutions Announces Flat-Cable Category 6 Compatible Patch Cords

June 15, 2011, Watertown, CT, USA — Siemon, a leading global manufacturer of IT network cabling and infrastructure systems, announces the release of new category 6 compatible flat patch cords for in-cabinet network equipment connectivity.  These RJ45 copper cable assemblies support category 6 transmission performance in a low profile construction that provides for tighter bend radius and more easily managed cable routing.

These patch cords use 4 pairs of 28-gage cable in a rectangular cross section that is only 0.089” (2.2mm) thick.  The small profile allows two to three flat cables to be neatly bundled in the space of a single round 24-gage cable.

Typically, smaller gage conductors used in flat cables often result in unreliable connections.  Performance testing conducted on some commercially available flat cable cords showed a significant 5 dB drop in return loss margins.  Due to an improved contact design and cable construction, the Siemon product showed no return loss degradation after the same testing.
