China’s Leading Set-Top Box Supplier, Coship, Selects Entropic’s c.LINK 1.1 Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) Solution for Its Two-Way High Definition Cable Set-Top Boxes

BEIJING, March 20, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — China Content Broadcasting Network Exhibition – Hall: 3; Booth # 3403 — Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, announced today Coship Electronics (Coship), one of the leading set-top box (STB) vendors in the world, has selected its c.LINK® Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) Broadband Access solution for integration into its High Definition (HD) STBs to simplify China operators’ deployments of new advanced services. By using the embedded c.LINK EoC solution, the HD STB platform is highly scalable in an operator’s network; having the ability to be deployed in multiple STBs throughout a home, wherever a coax outlet in the room exists.

Under the China NGB initiative, multiple service operators (MSOs) are looking to deploy more advanced video services. Many MSOs are investing in EoC solutions to ensure network reliability of these video services. To increase MSOs’ average revenue per user (ARPU), many MSOs are turning to turnkey single-box STBs integrated with EoC technology to ensure a robust, complete multimedia and broadband access-ready network.

Coship selected Entropic’s latest EoC solution, c.LINK 1.1, as it is a proven and trusted technology, deployed within multiple operator networks in China. By integrating c.LINK into the STB solution, operators can more seamlessly roll-out advanced services as part of their NGB cable TV transformation plans. The Coship solution enables the delivery of advanced IP-based broadband and interactive services, such as IPTV and IP VoD (video on demand), among other services over the same coaxial network that is shared with the operator’s cable TV service.

Entropic’s c.LINK 1.1 EoC solution is based on the EN3511 Network Controller (NC) and the EN3530 Client Premise Equipment (CPE). Key technical features include:

  • Reliability – based on the field proven MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax) 1.1 chipset technology, for which Entropic has already shipped more than 50-million MoCA 1.0/1.1 chipsets;
  • Lower Total Systems Cost – achieved through its highly integrated 65nm single-chip SoC and optimized bill of materials (BOM) costs;
  • Increased Performance – providing more than 270 Mbps of raw data bandwidth and more than 175 Mbps of application throughput;
  • Backward Compatibility – to the currently deployed system (EN3011/EN3230) in the field offering a seamless upgrade path; and
  • Support for Quality of Service (QoS) Performance Attributes – with high immunity to electrical interference and stringent low latency time-division-multiplexing protocol (TDM).

Availability

The Coship interactive HD STB samples will be available in Q2 2013, with mass production in Q3 2013.
