Perry Offer, Dialogue CEO: How Operators Can Defeat Multi-Billion Dollar Messaging Fraud

07 January 2015 – Last month, Perry Offer, CEO of Dialogue Group attended the first ever Wholesale Messaging and SMS World event, where he joined its keynote discussion panel, focussing on wholesale SMS, messaging technologies, services, markets and legislation. The panel discussion addressed the pricing pressure challenge, a direct result of grey route trafficking which destroys significant revenues that should rightfully flow to Mobile Network Operators. This saw Offer urge operators to move away from encouraging SIM farms and tackle disorderly markets and fraudulent activity head on, in order to eradicate rock bottom pricing.

Offer emphasised that operators should act now by inviting their CEO’s to sit down with their CFOs, and a flipchart, to map out the relationships between their differing revenue flows. Offer clarified that by doing so, operators would understand and realise that much of their current ‘success’ is being delivered at a huge price.

This message was supported by the panel members, which included James Lasbrey, Head of Wholesale Messaging, Telefónica, who echoed many of Offer’s comments.

In the interview filmed shortly after the panel session, Offer went onto explain the huge value proposition of A2P (Application-to-Person) SMS messaging, which is marked for major growth over the coming years. He affirmed that operators should work more closely with A2P aggregators to bring down price points, while shifting to 100% on-net messaging delivery in order to fulfil the true value of A2P SMS. Offer also imparted that Dialogue will continue to focus on this message into 2015, helping the entire industry to understand that there is a significant opportunity in the monetisation of A2P, and that it needs to work together as a whole to address fraud and create 100% legitimate markets.

As a trusted A2P partner, Dialogue is already working with many of the major Mobile Network Operators to help them monetise and realise the revenue potential that can be gained through A2P.
