Toon Boom Impacts the Caribbean Animation Community

Montreal (September 27, 2010) – Toon Boom Animation’s involvement in the development of the Caribbean region has hit another historic high. Makesi Aquan, final year student at the University of Trinidad and Tobago Animation Student Show was sent to Ghana to screen his winning animation. Makesi’s Film titled Project Ninja Slippers won People’s Choice at the event which saw over 250 people witness this historic event. The audience included members of the advertising industry, media houses, artists, designers, filmmakers and members of the public. His choice of software was Toon Boom Animate Pro. The software was upgraded recently at the University by Toon Boom as part of their initiatives’ to develop the Caribbean Animation industry.

The trip was made possible by a Commonwealth Foundation Grant which allowed Animae Caribe Animation Festival founder Camille Abrahams and one Student to visit Animafrik Festival in Ghana to screen Caribbean animations. “The UTT Animation program is not just designed to spit out students, but it is systematically designed to allow our students to either further their skills, enter the job market or become creative forces in the industry”. The trip also included visits to the Commonwealth Foundation, The Royal College of Art and Design and several award winning Animation Studios in London.
