Big Wave Surfing Takes Silver Medal in 2011 IPPY Awards

Eden Praire, MN — May 06, 2011 / (http://www.myprgenie.com) — The new book – Big Wave Surfing, Extreme Technology Development, Management, Marketing and Investing racked up another honor today with the announcement that it took the silver medal in the 15th annual 2011 Independent Publisher Book Awards in the category Finance/Investment/Economics. This follows its offic ial launch in late March where it stayed on Amazon’s #1 ranking for Business and Investing as well as Computers and Internet for most of the week.

According to the author, Ken Thurber, “I wrote Big Wave Surfing as an analogy to show how disruption causes big waves to form and that these disruptions will have far-reaching economic, political and social effects both now and into the future.”

The analogy of big waves and disruption has begun to resonate with audiences.

“In the last few months we have commented on many aspects from the book that are touching people here in America and abroad: – from Manufacturing – can we save it in America, to international – such as how technology has affected unrest in the Middle East. Other times we looked at the big picture and asked if big wave surfers can save us from a failed economy. Many people have responded to these posts and realize we are on to some profound changes not only in American society but around the world as recent events have shown.

As the book points out, it’s critical to be able to spot these big waves forming. We talk about them from a technological perspective, but it’s clear that technology is rapidly altering the landscape and that the landscape is rapidly altering technology.”

Thurber continues..”We live in interesting times. Our true measure will be how well we adapt not only to the speed of change, but the results of these changes. I believe my book will help people begin to understand and deal with these changes. I have spent a lifetime in the computer business, a business that can change radically every 12-18 months, sometimes sooner. We are talking about disruption, and often extreme techniques are needed to deal with this disruption.”

Thurber finishes by saying… “Accordingly we will continue to speak about these changes as the book moves forward and adapts as well. For readers this will mean continued impressions from the front lines as I use technology and my 40-years experience to keep people abreast of the “Big Waves” through our newsletter and my Big Wave Alerts on Twitter.

Thurber says like the physical surfers who ply the big waves at a beach like Mavericks  these new concepts won’t “always be pretty and in fact it may be down- right dangerous. There will be winners. There will be wipeouts and losers. But if we don’t boldly embrace the next wave, the innovation economy, then profound structural changes will occur in American society.”

Are we ready for the new innovative economy and new forms of American manufacturing?

Big Wave Surfing answers that question.
