Vizada and Inmarsat Preview Latest Maritime Satcoms Developments at Marintec 2009

HONG KONG, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — New developments in maritime satellite communications that will deliver significant advantages to Asia-Pacific ship owners, shipping companies and crew are being previewed at Marintec 2009 by Vizada and Inmarsat. The two partners are exhibiting on stand 3H61, hall W3, from 1 – 4 December, 2009.

Vizada has developed a number of solutions to optimize the Inmarsat FleetBroadband mobile satellite service and make the most of its high-speed data connection and high-quality voice channel on board ship.

Vizada’s new SkyFile Mail 7.5 software package includes the MyMail feature which allows crew to create a prepaid email account with personal username and password and use it on different ships. Unlike other prepaid email systems on the market, SkyFile Mail 7.5 allows email attachments of all types and size, enabling crew members to send data files such as photographs or images. SkyFile Mail 7.5 can currently be used on Inmarsat B, Mini-M, GAN, Swift and Fleet terminals, as well as Inmarsat FleetBroadband from January 2010.

The SkyFile Anti Virus software identifies and eliminates malware such as viruses and Trojan horses on the onboard PCs. It also updates itself automatically through an onboard internet connection so that users always have the latest protection at their disposal when out at sea.

Vizada’s Terralink Data Manager Live feature helps keep satellite broadband costs under control through a pop-up on the user’s PC screen which shows traffic consumption in real time.

Lastly, Vizada is offering service provider partners two new streaming rates over the Inmarsat FleetBroadband service. The rates – at 8 kbps and 16 kbps – are designed to support users who wish to make multiple and simultaneous voice over IP (VoIP) phone calls through a FleetBroadband FB500 or FB250 terminal.

Vizada supplies Inmarsat mobile satellite services to some of Asia-Pacific’s leading shipping companies including Cosco and China Shipping. It does so through a regional sales team based in offices in Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as some 50 local service providers who sell directly to the shipping companies.
