The Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) will participate atthe 4th Internet Governance Forum (IGF), in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt from 15 to 18 November 2009.
APNIC and the four other other Regional Internet Registries that comprise the NRO will highlight the important issues surrounding critical Internet resources and the registry system’s experience and expertise in handling these issues.
The responsible stewardship and management of IP address resources is critical to the proper functioning and growth of the global Internet.
Members of the NRO are a legitimate source of accurate information on resource usage trends and will provide valuable data and advice to the IGF on correct management of these critical Internet resources.
Please visit the NRO booth at the IGF Village, where you can learn more about the current issues facing IP addressing, such as the transition
from IPv4 to IPv6, and speak to representatives from the NRO and its five constituent RIRS: AfriNIC, APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC, and the RIPE-NCC to
discuss issues relevant to their region’s own issues.
APNIC’S Director General, Paul Wilson, and Communications Area Manager, German Valdez, will speak at the following workshops:
– Adopting IPv6: What You Need To Know
– Managing Internet Addresses: Global and regional viewpoint
– Analyzing resource requests: present and future (principles, criteria, policies, assessment, challenges)
– Introduction to Internet Operations
The IGF is a United Nations initiative that provides a worldwide forum for multistakeholder policy dialogue surrounding Internet Governance.
An evolving discussion since the Internet’s early days, Internet Governance involves the policies and mechanisms under which the Internet community’s many stakeholders make decisions about Internet development and use. APNIC has participated in these discussions since its inception.
