Euronews: Damien Marchi to head new department of Product Marketing and Innovation

Lyon, France – 4 March 2013 – Amid radical change in the media sector, Euronews is setting up a new organisational structure and accelerating its production of news geared to all consumer channels.

Within this new structure, all Euronews products – digital or otherwise – are at the heart of the channel’s strategy. The core focus is the user experience, as announced by Peters at the world press conference in October 2012.

As part of this push, Damien Marchi is joining Euronews to lead the new Product Marketing and Innovation Department.

Marchi’s brief is to develop the strategy and offering around Euronews’ existing and future media products and services worldwide. He will be in charge of strengthening their performance and enforcing Euronews’ position among the world’s leading news outlets. In this capacity, he will sit on Euronews’ Management Committee.

In particular, Marchi will lead the redesign of Euronews’ YouTube channels; of its mobile applications for iPhone, iPad, and Android; and of its smart TV services, radio and websites. He will also oversee the strategic content and technology partnerships that Euronews manages around the world.

Michael Peters, CEO, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Damien Marchi to the Euronews team. His interactive-production experience and his understanding of digital-expansion programmes will help us step up our strategy of putting the right content, in the right place, at the right time, first announced in 2011. The creation of this new Product Department, a fresh innovation in the news sector, places the user experience at the heart of all our future developments. It’s essential for me to stress that the expansion of Euronews’ product offering must always be based on content of impeccable quality. The quality of our content stems from the tremendous work done by our editorial team of 400 journalists from over 30 countries, and from an editorial line that is recognised worldwide.”

Damien Marchi said: “I’m particularly pleased to be joining Euronews. The channel has already proved its ability to innovate, establishing itself as Europe’s leading TV channel and a global leader on digital platforms. It’s a terrific assignment to be taking part in the next phase of its development. With multiple language services and a format that is totally suited to non-linear consumption, Euronews is well-equipped for the future.”
