ConvenientPower Accelerates Wireless Power Innovation With PCB Technology and Foreign Object Detection (FOD)
TOKYO, Sept. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — ConvenientPower today launched two wireless power innovations in Japan.
The first innovation is the first Qi-certified wireless charger, named “TX-0”, which incorporates a single PCB (Printed Circuit Board) housing both the electronics and a coil array offering the thinnest freedom of positioning Qi wireless chargers.
Freedom of positioning through the coil array offers the top user experience in wireless power charging by allowing devices to be charged in any direction, in any location on the charging surface.
“By integrating both the electronics and a coil array, you offer not only freedom of positioning technology but also a reliable, robust, cost effective high volume manufacturing solution because there is no need for manual soldering and moving parts,” said Bas Fransen, Chief Marketing Officer, ConvenientPower.
The second innovation is ConvenientPower’s approach to FOD (Foreign Object Detection) using an advanced detection technique which applies before power transfer begins, and which applies to all Qi receivers.
“Existing FOD techniques apply only after power transfer starts and only for a limited number of Qi receivers. ConvenientPower’s approach is significantly more versatile,” Fransen continued.
Scalability in manufacturing and robust charging across diverse and demanding environments are important as the Qi wireless charging ecosystem’s volume ramps beyond its 8.5 million Qi-capable devices.
TX-0 is offered as a complete module or final product. ConvenientPower also offers customization.
Qi, the global standard for wireless power, allows any Qi-enabled device to be charged, free of connectors or wires, on any Qi-enabled charging surface. Qi ensures interoperability between devices and chargers regardless of brand or manufacturer. Qi sets the standard for wireless power just as Bluetooth set the standard for exchanging data over short distances and Wi-Fi set the standard for wireless networking.
