World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 Launches Milan Mobile App
World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 has launched an update to its WDC 2012 app for visitors on the move in Milan during Salone Internazionale del Mobile on 17-22 April. Celebrating the wealth of Finnish design on view, it offers an easy, convenient way to navigate the many exhibitions, talks and events in Milan throughout Design Week.
Created by Finnish digital design firm and WDC 2012 partner Fjord, the Milan section of the app is organised into four categories, highlighting designers, products, events and an interactive map of where to find Finnish design throughout the city. It can be accessed within the ‘Extra’ section of the WDC 2012 app.
Users can browse through up-to-the-minute details for projects ranging from UPM’s collaboration with Tom Dixon at MOST at The National Museum of Science and Technology toTake Nord Shape, the pavilion showcasing sustainable architecture and design in the garden at the Milan Triennale. The app will also show where visitors can find new products from celebrated Finnish design brands like Artek and Piiroinen.
The Milan section is a new addition to the WDC Helsinki 2012 app, which launched in January to offer a comprehensive guide to the dynamic programme of more than 300 projects taking place in Helsinki during its World Design Capital year 2012. The app is available for tourists and city residents in English, Finnish and Swedish.
The app is free to download via WDC Helsinki 2012 website, http://wdchelsinki2012.fi/en/app and from online app stores. It is available for Android, iOS (iPhone and iPad), Meego, Symbian, and Windows platforms. Smartphone users can also download the app using NFC ‘shortcuts’ – via the nearly 20,000 UPM BullsEye NFC tags featuring NXP Mifare UL chips, which are embedded in posters and stickers around the city of Helsinki and a number of locations in surrounding cities during 2012.
