Further Optimization of operative and analytical SAP Applications

(PresseBox) (Germany, Bensheim, 25.08.2014) PBS Software is further extending their partnership with IBM. With immediate effect, the PBS Nearline Storage solutions for SAP BW and ERP that have been tried and tested for more than seven years can also be used with IBM DB2 BLU Acceleration. Customers that are already using DB2 BLU as the NLS solution for their SAP BW environment can extend this with the PBS NLS solution (CBW NLS). This enables further optimization potential to be leveraged when running operative and analytical SAP applications. Significant improvements can be achieved in operative and analytical reporting in addition to a reduction in operating costs.

The DB2 BLU database from IBM is characterized by its dynamic in-memory processing of column-oriented and line-oriented tables. This hybrid approach supports the unique data compression under DB2 that enables the processing of queries on compressed data. This therefore results in a lower main memory capacity requirement and, at the same time, a noticeable acceleration in processing times. It complements perfectly the new analytical solutions developed by PBS Software.

The PBS solution with its sophisticated monitoring and snapshot technologies in combination with DB2 BLU on the one hand enables fast reporting, optimum archive data processing, and the integration of external data in ERP systems. On the other hand, extremely large volumes of data can be processed very fast and efficiently in SAP BW systems. Additional highlights are flexible data management for implementing data aging strategies, the archiving of PSA data, legally compliant data extraction according to GDPdU (principles for data access and verifiability of digital documents), and the automatic generation of data, archiving processes, and process chains. In this way, the PBS solutions with DB2 BLU also open up all advantages of the new column-oriented analysis world to customers using traditional database technology.

The two companies have already been cooperating together for many years through their partnership around PBS ContentLink that ensures compliant data storage thanks to its direct connection between SAP systems and the storage platform IBM DR550. The PBS solutions are now available on DB2 BLU in the nearline analytics area.
