Consolidation of EDI Landscape at Automotive Supplier Autoliv
Bretten, March 12, 2013 – The Swedish-American automotive supplier Autoliv is consolidating its various EDI systems (Electronic Data Interchange) at its 32 European sites on a central platform – Business Integration Suite. This saves time, reduces IT costs, and increases competitiveness.
According to a recent study, half of midsize and large German companies use 10 or more different IT systems (source: Detecon study, ERP-Consolidation – Turning Many into One). This was also the case at Autoliv: “The different IT systems at the Autoliv locations made cross-site modifications difficult and made conversions costly, time-consuming, and in some cases, impossible. The many different licence models, some of which were with the same providers, offered potential savings as well,” says Olaf Schwartz, Manager IT Business Competence Center, Autoliv.
The new B2B/EDI solution (BIS6) maps both standardised formats and OFTP2, and also enables individual adjustments to be made on the customer side. As a result of the consolidation measures, total EDI costs have been halved. More transparency, central support, doing away with local systems, and independence from the system provider as a result of enablement measures are further advantages. After the EDI consolidation, all ERP systems were also migrated to SAP® ERP. The XML concept hugely simplifies the migration of the various legacy systems to SAP ERP. As a result of the double conversion, only the process side has to be adjusted during mapping. At Autoliv, the time required in the migration project was therefore reduced by one third. In the next step, the finance and logistics data will be migrated gradually, without disruptions in delivery.
