First Three Months a Great Success For AppCampus
Helsinki, Finland – August 31st, 2012
AppCampus – the world’s largest mobile acceleration program – started operations in May 2012 in Espoo, Finland. An online process for granting awards to support development of new ideas into mobile applications was opened on May 14th at www.appcampus.fi. During the first three months the program has attracted more than 900 submissions from over 60 countries all around the world.
“We have now screened the first wave of application ideas sent our way. Out of these, we selected the 30 best applications for which we have committed 1 million euros in investment. There are already some gems in this group of applications and we expect them to hit the Windows Phone Marketplace starting this autumn”, says Mr. Pekka Sivonen, Head of AppCampus at Aalto University.
AppCampus was created in collaboration with Aalto University, Microsoft and Nokia. Both of the corporations pledged to invest together up to 18 million euros over the next three years to fund unique, innovative and high impact mobile applications that utilize Windows Phone and additionally other Nokia platforms. AppCampus supports the publication of applications on a currently installed base of more than 500 million devices.
“We are astonished by how well-received the program has been on a global level. We will capitalize on that in the near future by taking the program to the next level and introducing new partners and an extended geographical reach this autumn,” adds Mr. Sivonen.
Apart from investing 20,000 – 70,000 euros per project, AppCampus also supports the admitted applicants with world-class training, coaching and marketing as well as marketplace qualification process. The program does not take equity or commission from the investment. Successful applications are expected to be available exclusively on Windows Phone and additionally other Nokia platforms for the first six months.
