6WIND Announces Packet Processing Software Optimized for Cavium’s OCTEON® III Processor Family

PARIS, France, February 7, 2012 — 6WIND, the gold standard for software-defined networks, today announced support within the 6WINDGate™ software solution for the next-generation OCTEON® III processor family from Cavium, Inc. [NASDAQ: CAVM], a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, and the digital home. 6WIND will discuss this support at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 27th through March 1st (booth 2B122) and at RSA Conference in San Francisco from February 27th through March 2nd (booth 242).

Both mobile and cloud service providers face challenges that are far more complex than simply adding subscriber capacity. The exponential growth in mobile video traffic, for example, requires software-defined networks running on standard hardware platforms, while networks must be designed for high scalability rather than for the needs of specific, well-known applications. Engineering teams face constant pressure to minimize their time-to-market by maximizing the reuse of proprietary, legacy software typically developed over multiple product generations and proven through extensive field experience. 6WINDGate provides a proven solution to these challenges, delivering a comprehensive, portable suite of networking protocols already deployed by tier-1 OEMs worldwide.

“Networking and telecom equipment manufacturers have developed best-in-class products by using the 6WINDGate software on earlier generations of Cavium processors,” said Eric Carmès, CEO of 6WIND. “With support for the new OCTEON III family, we look forward to enabling these customers to quickly extend their product lines for high-performance applications. At the same time, by maintaining full compatibility with standard Operating System APIs, 6WINDGate enables new customers to quickly develop or migrate their application software, thereby accelerating time-to-market and reducing schedule risk.”

“We are pleased that 6WIND is supporting the OCTEON III processor family with their comprehensive set of networking protocols,” said YJ Kim, general manager, infrastructure processor group at Cavium. “6WIND was one of the first members of the Cavium PACE ecosystem; our many years of close technical cooperation will ensure a highly-optimized packet processing solution for our new and existing joint customers.”

6WINDGate support for the Cavium OCTEON III family will be available in line with the availability of the processors themselves. For more information, please visit http://www.6wind.com.
