Wind Energy Farm Began Construction on Port Property

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Revolution Energy, LLC., has begun the construction of its “Harbor Wind” wind energy farm on Port Corpus Christi property.   The wind energy farm, located on the north side of the Port’s inner harbor, is known to be the first wind energy farm located on industrial port property in North America.  “Our Port is proud to be one of America’s Wind Energy Ports leaders.  The Revolution Energy project marks a step forward towards the Port’s support to the future of clean energy.” Said John LaRue, Port’s Executive Director.

Revolution Energy, LLC, began developing the project on 2006.  It is scheduled to be on operation early 2012 and it is expected to have the following impact to the area’s economy:

  • A total of six wind turbines will be installed
  • Total cost of $20 Million
  • Over $7 Million for local economy for construction related activity
  • 6 months construction period

When the Harbor Wind farm begins its operation early 2012, it is expected to generate 30,000,000kWh/year of clean energy, equal to the electricity needs of nearly 2,500 homes.  “The Port has been very supportive of this project from the very beginning.  Our wind project is another sign of the diversification of energy supply at the Port and the local community,” said Tibor Hegedus, General Manager, Revolution Energy.
