Movilway appoints John Owens as a new member of the Board of Directors

Miami, April 12th 2011. – Movilway, one of the leading suppliers of prepaid mobile top-up in Latin America, announces the immediate incorporation of John Owens as a new member of the company’s Board of Directors.

For more than twenty-three years, John Owens has spent his professional career in the field of microfinance and mobile money services in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Being a pioneer and a driving force of the use of financial services via mobile, he has also advised banks, businesses and government agencies on the matter, playing a decisive role in the conceptualization and development of mobile financial services for rural banks in the Philippines.

Currently, Owens serves as “Chief of Party” for the program ”Microenterprise Access to Banking Services” (MABS), an initiative designed to accelerate the rural banking industry in the Philippines. This program facilitates access for disadvantaged populations to microfinance services.

Since 2009, John joined the Board of Directors of Chemonics International Inc. and he is also member of the Advisory Panel of the “Mobile Money Transfer (MMT) Forum”.

Owens is a renowned speaker, having an extensive career giving international conferences. Expert in the field of microfinance, he is the author of numerous prestigious books on the subject.

With this appointment, Movilway will count with a key partner on the macro-strategic level and on the development of the company’s strategy. Movilway will continue offering innovative microfinance services and payment solutions through mobile phones to the Latin-American population.
