NAID announces landmark certification in Asia
PHOENIX, ARIZONA – The National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) announces that Hong Kong-based Li Tong Group is the first IT asset management firm in Asia to earn NAID AAA Certification for Sanitization Operations. In doing so, Li Tong has passed NAID’s rigorous security audit, verifying operational and regulatory compliance, and will continue to submit to scheduled and unannounced audits for ongoing compliance.
This signifies the certification’s growing global recognition, according to NAID CEO Bob Johnson.
“The growing regulatory requirements to validate a service provider’s capability are forcing customers to rely on third party certifications,” said Johnson. “As the only non-profit organization offering a consistent, audited data destruction certification globally, we anticipate participation by more service providers in the region soon.”
There are currently more than 1,000 NAID certified operations in the U.S., Canada, Europe, South Africa and Australia, including a growing number of organizations providing IT asset management services and computer recycling.
“While regulations around the world now require customers to validate that service providers are compliant with the laws,” added Johnson. “Doing so is a very tall order for the average business. Besides its rigorous standards and audit methodology, NAID certification also validates the appropriate regulatory linkage, which is so valuable to clients.”
Recently amended, Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO) holds data controllers responsible for the compliance of contracted third parties and has new regulations related to outsourcing.
Joanne Cheung of Li Tong said, “We are very proud of our NAID certification, which is regarded as the most rigorous certification of its kind. It provides our customers with assurance of our regulatory compliance and security, which is critical to their protection and compliance.”
