“GUESS THE DATE” CONTEST WILL ADD INTRIGUE TO RECORD-BREAKING, HOME-AUTOMATION DEMONSTRATION
MILPITAS, CA, August 28, 2013 – The Z-Wave Alliance has announced a way for non-mountaineers to participate in an epic mountain-climbing adventure and display of technological power.
Z-Wave’s “Guess the Date” contest will invite entrants to guess the exact date and time that amateur mountain climber and Sigma Designs technical services manager Mariusz Malkowski will reach the summit of Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world, in an amazing September climb officially titled the “Z-Wave Himalayan Expedition by Kwikset®.”
Z-Wave’s “Guess the Date” contest will kick off August 28 and run through September 24. Participants can enter their guesses at http://www.z-wavealliance.org/
Once at the summit, Malkowski will demonstrate the home automation capabilities of Z-Wave by operating a variety of devices located in the Z-Wave Alliance Pavilion (Booth #512) on the CEDIA Expo floor. A live video remote of Malkowski will be broadcast from the mountain summit to the Z-Wave Alliance Pavilion, allowing Expo attendees to watch the demonstration. By virtue of its remote location, rugged environmental condition, and lack of technical support capabilities, the event is being dubbed the “most remote home automation demonstration ever recorded.
Using no supplemental oxygen, Malkowski is scheduled to begin his ascent on September 10 and will conclude his descent on or around October 6. The purpose is to show end-users the reliability of Z-Wave technology, as well as highlighting the overall benefits of home automation.
Kwikset, the leader in residential security, was named as the lead (Diamond) sponsor of the event. Additional sponsors include: Vivint (Platinum); Z-Wave Alliance (Platinum); Alarm.com (Gold); Fibaro (Gold); Remotec (Silver); and Z-Wave Products (Silver).
