Siemon Named Conservationist of the Year
April 3, 2013. Watertown, CT – Siemon, a leading global network infrastructure specialist, is pleased to announce that the company was recently named Conservationist of the Year by Moose Mountain Regional Greenways (MMRG), a grassroots non-profit organization committed to land conservation and education outreach in the Moose Mountains region of New Hampshire. Founded in 1999 by conservation commissioners from the towns of Brookfield, Farmington, Middleton, Milton, New Durham and Wakefield, MMRG has helped preserve a total of 4,186 acres in the surrounding community.
With strong ties to the area, Siemon was named MMRG’s Conservationist of the Year due to its long history of progressive environment action and the Carl Siemon Family Charitable Trust’s award-winning 3,000-acre Branch Hill Farm located in Milton Mills and Wakefield. Cynthia Wyatt, daughter of Carl Siemon, was a founding member of MMRG and is now the vice chair. Over the years, she has donated sustaining funds and allowed MMRG to use the Branch Hill Farm for many events. Today, Siemon provides matching funds for the MMRG’s largest fundraiser, the Woods, Water and Wildlife Festival.
“Since our founding in 1999, MMRG has been associated with The Siemon Company, the Siemon Family and Branch Hill Farm,” said Art Slocum, chairman of the MMRG. “It was at this farm that Carl Siemon planted the lessons of sustainability, conservation, land preservation and environmentally-friendly practices that resulted in not only the founding of the MMRG and Branch Hill Farm, but also the green business practices at The Siemon Company—long before green was an industry buzzword and marketing tool.”
With Zero-Landfill status, a negative carbon footprint across its entire global operations, 99% recycling or reuse of all waste material, lean solar energy at its manufacturing facility that provides a yearly greenhouse gas reduction of 373,000 lbs, and several other ongoing initiatives, Siemon is highly committed to protecting and preserving the environment. CK Siemon, part owner and President of Siemon Global Project Services Division, and Tom Costello, CFO, accepted the award at the MMRG’s annual meeting in February 2013.
