Announcing IntelliFest 2013: Taming Big Data with Big Reasoning

San Francisco, CA (MMD Newswire) March 21, 2013 — Organizers announced today that IntelliFest 2013, the International Conference on Reasoning Technologies, will be held in San Diego, California from October 7-11, 2013. This year’s conference will address “Big Data” and how to make the information streaming in from suppliers and customers useful and actionable with “big reasoning.”

Introducing this year’s theme, Jason Morris, chairman of IntelliFest 2013, notes, “By now, we all have heard about the ‘Big Data problem’ and the hype around it.The truth is, people don’t pay for data…they pay for information. Information is actionable; you can make decisions based upon it. Decision-making is a time-sensitive, information-consuming process, and therefore the information used in decision-making is also time-sensitive. The more serious the consequences of any given decision, the more valuable–in an economic sense–the information used to make it.” This year at IntelliFest attendees will examine specific tools, technologies, and techniques for programmatically converting data into information and for reasoning about that information.

Reasoning technologies include but are not limited to rule engines, constraint solvers, and machine learning algorithms. They are the building blocks of applied AI systems that exhibit logical reasoning, such as expert systems, case-based reasoning systems, theorem provers, and constraint satisfaction system. These systems, increasingly found at the core of cloud-based and “big data” applications, are widely used in business and research for automated decision-making, business rule processing, complex event processing, run-time governance, policy enforcement, rating systems, optimization, scheduling, predictive analytics, intrusion detection, security and integrity, fraud detection, and many other purposes.

IntelliFest is a single-track conference where software and IT developers, project managers and executives responsible for driving new business development and initiatives can meet to learn about, discuss, and explore the state-of-the-art in reasoning technologies and applied AI to create intelligent products and services. Authors are invited to submit presentations showcasing mobile apps, web services, distributed and cloud apps, as well as other commercial and internal systems that illustrate this theme. Preferred presentations will include but are not limited to: case studies, code-walks, application demos, and engineering considerations surrounding this growing need.

The three-day conference, October 7-11, is preceded by special “boot camps” Monday before the main conference for hands-on basic training and followed by advanced skills building for developers, engineers, programmers, and architects on Friday.

IntelliFest attracts attendees from varied industries, such as aerospace, defense, finance, e-commerce, healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation on the basis of their shared interest in leveraging reasoning technologies to deliver superior, more cost-effective products and services.
