Tieto announces Carrier Cloud Telecoms R&D Services and Solution Accelerators at MWC
To enable a migration path towards virtualized network functions and SDN technologies, and increased use of best-of-breed components in open environments, Tieto today announced the availability of commercial Solution Accelerators and tailored professional services to accelerate business growth and increase R&D efficiency within the Network Equipment Provider ecosystem. Tieto’s commercial Solution Accelerators cover:
- Commercial development and integration of tailored Carrier Grade middleware solutions for our network equipment provider customers, including integration of Free and Commercial 3rd party components and extensions of Cloud Telecoms enabling components like OpenStack and KVM
- Carrier grade IP-stack solution (Tieto IP Stack) integrated with Intel® DPDK
- End-to-end Cloud Management solutions including Carrier Cloud Manager with modern web UI, integration with standard CIMI interface and management agent for local O&M data collection and provisioning.
- Signaling protocols with High Performance High Availability designs (Diameter,SIP,SS7)
Tieto will showcase its Carrier Cloud Solution Accelerators as part of a virtualized Carrier Cloud Telecoms proof of concept demonstration at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 25th through February 28th (booth F84, Hall 6). The demonstration focuses on how wireless applications can be implemented in software and virtualized on multi-core Intel platforms, and addresses the challenges of deploying virtualization and SDN in telecoms networks.
The proof of the concept is built using multi-core Intel® Xeon® processors, and integrates advanced software optimizations from both Tieto and Intel, including the powerful packet processing framework provided by the Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (Intel® DPDK). Integrating these advances with cloud-based technologies can deliver the potential to open the telecoms network to allow for new innovative service designs which promote ecosystem cooperation and best-of-breed solutions.
In addition, the potential also exists to reduce provisioning (CapEx) costs required for telecoms workloads and applications, and significantly lower operational (OpEx) costs. Truly virtualized cloud-based network architecture can allow equipment providers and mobile network operators to:
- Efficiently operate, maintain and upgrade network resources, while speeding up functional and service deployments
- Lower CapEx by reducing the need for specialized equipment and tool chains
- Innovate to deliver new and enhanced services and revenue streams, while also allowing existing investments to be re-used
“We are pleased to announce Carrier Cloud R&D Services and Solution Accelerators as part of our on-going support for multi-core Intel® architecture solutions,” said Antti Vasara, Executive Vice President of Tieto Product Engineering Services. “Tieto’s expertise can help accelerate the deployment of Network Function Virtualization & SDN technologies and increased use of best of breed components in open environments, such as Intel® architecture platforms, while eliminating time-consuming in-house software development that adds risk to product launch schedules”.
“We are entering an exciting and challenging era of network transformation as telecoms architectures evolve to take advantage of virtualization and SDN technologies. Tieto’s Carrier Cloud Solution Accelerators can assist this evolution and demonstrate how Network Equipment Providers and Network Operators can save costs, offer new services and meet their customers’ bandwidth demands utilizing the latest advances in silicon and software technology from Intel and Tieto,” said Stephen Price, GM Communications Infrastructure Group, Intel Corporation.
