Analysys Mason to develop new ICT strategy for Hong Kong Police Force

LONDON, UK, 27 September 2012 – Analysys Mason, one of the world’s premier advisers in telecoms, IT and media, has been engaged by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, acting through the Hong Kong Police Force, to conduct an information and communications technology (ICT) systems strategy review.

Analysys Mason will formulate an ICT development plan that will enhance traditional policing, expand community police work, and strengthen intelligence-led policing. The multi-million-Hong-Kong- dollar consultancy programme (which will take place over the next year) will include an in-depth review of the current business environment of the Force as well as the existing ICT policies, strategies and network infrastructure; identifying and anticipating the needs of front-line police operations, and the systems and infrastructure required to support them.

This is the first ICT strategy review that the Force has commissioned. Changes in the business environment and the advent of new technology has prompted the Force to combine the planning for information systems and its communications systems – integrating its approach to IT and telecoms.

The new strategy will ensure that the best use is made of ICT to improve policing and to underpin the Force’s strategic direction and the Commissioner’s Operational Priorities. Above all, it will continue to enable the Force to serve the people of Hong Kong and ensure that Hong Kong remains one of the safest and most stable societies in the world.

After the contract signing at Police Headquarters (photos can be provided on request), Duncan Swan, Partner at Analysys Mason, commented: “It is a privilege to have been awarded this prestigious contract. Bringing together a team not only of technical consultants, but also experts in the field of operational policing, will allow Analysys Mason to provide deep insights into how the Hong Kong Police can use ICT to its best operational advantage. Traditionally, the Force has been recognised as a global leader in many of its initiatives, and this strategy will help maintain that profile.”
