Newtec has a wide portfolio of state-of-the-art Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products and solutions for government and defence applications. Newtec has a track record in the US, Canada and Europe with more than 26 years’ experience as a worldwide market leader in applications such as broadcasting, trunking of voice, data and video and government applications over satellite. Newtec satellite modulators and receivers have been perceived as the best performing equipment by national security and intelligence agencies through their full compliance with DVB-S2 standards, their flexibility and outstanding quality.
“National security is required to preserve the political, economic and social freedoms, rights and values of a country,” said Koen Willems, Newtec Strategic Marketing Director Government. “Each piece of intelligence that can anticipate acts of terrorism, international agreement violations or man-made disasters is critical to protecting a nation and its inhabitants. Reliable and efficient technology is high on the agenda for national security agencies.”
Didier Tymen, Vice President Sales EMEA, said the company had recently been involved in a growing number of projects outside the US and Canada.
Tymen said: “There has been a surge in interest from an increasing number of government and defence agencies in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. In one of the latest projects we successfully supplied a large quantity of Newtec equipment for a Ministry of Defence.”
Newtec’s product portfolio contains a variety of modulation and demodulation equipment for standard and proprietary communication over satellite for data, video and voice. These include:
- Supporting protocols such as DVB-S2, DVB-S, DVB-DSNG, Reed Solomon, Viterbi, TPC and LDPC;
- Covering the full spectrum of MODCODs (Modulation and Coding) and data rate (from 1.2 kbps to 160 Mbps) options for these protocols;
- Offering a set of encapsulation and decapsulation methods such as MPE, XPE, GSE, ULE, Base Band Frame, data piping.
These methods allow government and defence agencies to efficiently and reliably transmit and receive satellite traffic. In the process of acquisition and demodulation of the satellite signal the raw data remains untouched as PID-filtering and data handling activities can be switched off in the Newtec equipment. Additionally, the rich variety of options within Newtec satellite equipment allows government and defence agencies to keep their budgets under control. No extra units are needed when modulation, rates or encapsulation methods change.
