New Siemonâ Z-MAX™ 6A Solid Cords optimize performance and extend the reach of Network Cabling Consolidation Points and Cross Connects
October 28, 2010, WATERTOWN, CT – Siemon today introduces innovative category 6A Z-MAX solid cords terminated to 23-22 AWG copper conductors for use in high-performance consolidation points and cross connects as an equipment cord.
Available in both 10Gb/s category 6A shielded and UTP configurations, these new solid cords feature the patented Z-MAX 6A RJ-45 Smart-Plug design that integrates a precisely tuned printed circuit board (PCB) into every plug. Normally found only in outlets, the integrated PCB provides enhanced signal tuning capabilities, allowing the cord’s transmission parameters to be perfectly matched to the Z-MAX outlet. This Smart Plug technology supplies the best in class guaranteed category 6A margins when utilized as part of an end-to-end Z-MAX 6A cabling system.
Z-MAX’s PCB-based plug design enables it to be terminated to either stranded or solid, shielded or UTP category 6A cables. The new Z-MAX 6A modular solid cords extend the distance reach from consolidation points and cross-connects compared to stranded cords, which must be de-rated per industry standards. Standard RJ-45 plugs cannot be factory or field terminated to most solid 6A cables due to their inability to accept the larger-diameter solid cable conductors. These historical limitations are eliminated with the Z-MAX plug.
In the Z-MAX plug, cable conductors are terminated to the PCB at the rear of the plug rather than directly to the plug contacts, as in traditional plugs. This not only supports larger conductor sizes, but minimizes the pair untwisting often responsible for transmission issues in standard plugs. In addition the Z-MAX plug features a unique Zero-Cross™ termination that eliminates the split pair and pair-cross condition responsible for increased signal noise and performance degradation common in non-PCB RJ-45 plugs. The plug’s fixed front contacts also ensure proper mating with outlets to eliminate performance issues with contact height variability of traditional crimp-style terminations.
Standards compliant and fully backwards compatible with any standards-based RJ-45 outlet, Z-MAX category 6A cords feature a low profile boot design, which optimizes side-stackability of patch cords and enables usage in even the highest density connectivity environments. A cantilevered latch design further enhances the cord’s high-density accessibility by allowing latch activation from further back on the boot. Removable colored clips allow simple, high-visibility field color-coding even when cords are connected.
In addition to the exclusive Z-MAX Smart-Plug enabled solid or stranded cords, Siemon’s revolutionary Z-MAX end-to-end category 6A/class EA network cabling solution includes the innovative Z-MAX outlet, which offers best-in-class termination times of less than 60 seconds for both UTP and shielded varieties; one part number for both flat or angled work area mounting, high-density modular patch panels offering up to 48 ports in just 1 U; and Siemon’s high performance category 6A shielded or UTP cable.
