CTO of US Dept of Health to keynote mHealth Summit

Todd Park, Chief Technology Officer of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Joins Opening Keynote Line-Up at 2010 mHealth Summit

Park to open leading mobile technology and health conference alongside Dr. Francis S. Collins, director of the National Institutes for Health

Washington, D.C., 21 Oct. 2010 – Todd Park, Chief Technology Officer of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will join Dr. Francis S. Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health in delivering the opening keynote address at the 2010 mHealth Summit in Washington, D.C., on November 8th.

“We look forward to hearing Mr. Park’s perspective on how the Department of Health and Human Services, the United State’s principal agency focused on health, is implementing mobile technologies to deliver programs and services that protect and improve the health of all Americans,” said Richard Scarfo, Director of the mHealth Summit. HHS is one of the U.S. government’s largest agencies representing almost a quarter of all federal spending as well as administering more grant dollars than all other federal agencies combined.

The 2010 mHealth Summit is organized by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health in partnership with the mHealth Alliance and the National Institutes of Health. The event will take place November 8-10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., and will bring together the research, technology, policy, and business communities.

Todd Park
Todd Park is the former co-founder and board director of AthenaHealth, a practice-management company. Prior to his position at AthenaHealth, Park was a healthcare-management consultant with Booz Allen and Hamilton. He has also served a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, where he focused on health IT and health reform policy, and as senior health care adviser to Ashoka, where he helped start a venture to bring affordable telehealth, drugs, diagnostics, and clean water to rural India.

Park joins an impressive lineup of keynote speakers including: Bill Gates, Co-Chair and Trustee, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Ted Turner, Chairman, United Nations Foundation; Aneesh Chopra, U.S. Chief Technology Officer; Francis S. In addition to these keynote addresses, the conference program features seven Super Sessions on critical issues in mHealth that include topics such as Optimizing Privacy and Data Security, Regulatory and Policy Perspectives, Lessons Learned Around the Globe, Comparative Effectiveness Research and mHealth, and more. Six conference tracks and side sessions explore topics such as Economics and mFinance, the use of mobile technologies to improve Maternal and Child Health, Health Behavior & Mobile Technology, and mHealth and Emergency Response.
