twheel Launches in AppStore, Offers Completely New User Interface for Twitter

twheel™, a Twitter application that pulls signals out of noise, is now available in the AppStore. Visualized as a rotating wheel, twheel offers a fun, game-like interface for Twitter. The application displays the most relevant data with visual pop-outs such as colors and form deviations, the formats our brain observe the fastest. Using Twitter with twheel is significantly faster than with traditional list-based interfaces because it presents text content at a fixed location on the screen, which minimizes gaze shifts.

twheel pioneers the next-generation touch interface that substitutes tapping and swiping with maintaining contact with screen. Thus, moving a finger towards any piece of content dynamically magnifies it, enabling easy selection and processing.

Based on longstanding cognitive research, the application’s patented data display method enables the extraction of meaning from very large quantities of data, which makes Twitter an ideal case in point.

“We based the look and feel of twheel on our understanding of how human brains work, which derives from cognitive research conducted by our team’s members”, commented Kalle Määttä, CEO of Fluid Interactions, the company behind twheel. The company’s team boasts a Docent in Cognitive Psychology as well as a Research Engineer in Cognitive Ergonomics.

twheel’s main objective is to fight information overload. The application does not filter or curate the content for the user but rather reshapes the way the data is displayed to make it both visually compelling and easy for human brains to handle.

“With twheel we are aiming to build the most beautiful Twitter app”, adds Mikko Pitkänen, Designer behind twheel. “To this end, the user interface design we have created was driven by a combination of brain study results and cutting-edge touch screen technology. We believe content is the user interface of today”.
