Service2Media supports sending the new Web push notifications for Apple OS X Mavericks
23 October, 2013 – Following on the release made earlier by Apple, in which the company introduced its new OS X version Mavericks, Service2Media is pleased to announce that the new Mavericks web push technology will be supported with immediate effect by all Service2Media Push services.
In addition to sending push notification messages to Apple’s mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad, it is now also possible to send messages directly to Apple desktop computers that have the Safari web browser installed. Safari doesn’t even need to be open or active.
If the user has subscribed to a website’s push services, then they will receive these messages, sent by the site directly on their desktop. These notifications look and act the same as normal system or application notifications and can be managed in the same way.
“These new capabilities of the Apple’s OS X improve the customer’s experience with a brand. The customer gets served with relevant and timely information directly at his desk, in the same way he is used to on his mobile device.” says Peter Broekroelofs, Service2Media CTO. “In this way, companies can add value tot their service by approaching customers pro-actively when needed, at all places where they are digitally active. This supports the trend that people do not have to look for information themselves anymore but that companies present information tot hem when it matters.” adds Broekroelofs.
The new push technology is fully integrated into Service2Media’s existing push service. This robust and scalable service, used by, inter alia NOS and Vakantieveilingen.nl, enables a huge number of push notifications to be sent over the Apple, Google, Microsoft and BlackBerry networks. The system can be used both with the M2Active platform as well as natively, and can therefore be suitably deployed within virtually any development environment. The push service is accessed via a web portal where the apps can be configured, and messages written and prepared. The complete functionality of M2Active Push for backend systems and enterprise applications is also available via a REST API.
Interested parties are invited to try out the service free of charge and without obligation. Users of Mavericks and Safari 7 can try out sending a web push message at: http://www.service2media.com/webpush
