Borland Recognized as a “Leader” for the Second Year Running in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Integrated Software Quality Suites
HONG KONG, Aug. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — For the second year running, Borland, a Micro Focus company (LSE: MCRO.L), has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of the 2013 ” Integrated Software Quality Suites Magic Quadrant” report. The quadrant is based on an assessment of a company’s ability to execute and completeness of vision.
Showing good market growth over the last 18 months, Borland has continued to innovate in mobile and agile across its Silk Portfolio, with recent extensions to its Silk Mobile , Silk Performer , Silk Central , Silk for use with SAP and Silk WebMeter products.
According to the report, “Testing software can be an expensive process, but poor software quality leads to user dissatisfaction as well as increased development and maintenance. Therefore, having a well-defined set of tools and practices to drive software quality will positively affect the bottom line of a business.”
Archie Roboostoff, Borland Solutions Portfolio Director at Micro Focus, added, “In our view, to be reconfirmed as a leader in the software quality space by Gartner is a testament to our commitment to meeting the changing needs of our customers.”
Continuing, Roboostoff said, “Our teams have worked hard to provide a ‘better together’ story with a deeper integrated Silk, Borland and Micro Focus portfolio. We continue to innovate to meet customer expectations of quality today, which go way beyond fixing software bugs. An unprecedented number of customers have already upgraded to take advantage of the new features in Silk, which deliver improved performance, ease of use and the overall user experience.”
Recent innovations to the Borland Silk Portfolio include:
Mobile speed simulations for performance testing, enabling customers to pinpoint issues and understand mobile impact
Advanced object recognition across all automation technologies, enabling customers to increase quality across a wider range of application types
Test Management usability with the industry’s first test information stream, enabling efficiency and collaboration across all testing teams
Capacity planning advice tools, ensuring the right server sizing to better simulate real world scenarios
Borland’s range of software in the distributed testing tool market has full support for the development life cycle, including tools for assessing code quality and integration between requirements and test management. The company has also put a focus on how to deal with crossbrowser/platform issues and with custom controls, as well as added improved support for manual testing in its Silk Central product.

Notes to Editors
Gartner defines Leaders as having broad portfolios covering test management, functional and performance test automation. Each also has support for additional quality measures such as code quality, database testing, and either deep platform or broad technology support. At its core, the testing market is quite mature with a strong stratification of vendors by annual revenue. These companies are well suited as the backbone of a testing organization’s tool suite, and this is proven via a global presence and significant market shares. These vendors have significant partnerships and show consistency in execution of programs including acquisitions. However, note that, because of the breadth of customer bases and pace of change in the market, these vendors may at times lag in technology adoption which opens up space for competitors.
