AccuWeather.com Announces Joint Partnership with the Operation Respond Institute

STATE COLLEGE, PA – March 4, 2009 — AccuWeather.com, the World’s Weather Authority®, today announced a joint partnership with the Operation Respond Institute (ORI), a not-for-profit corporation headquartered in Washington, D.C. This partnership provides law enforcement agencies and emergency response teams with access to AccuWeather.com real-time weather data useful for hazmat incidents and other public safety activities.

With more than 800,000 daily movements of chemicals and other hazardous materials on the nation’s transportation system, community safety remains a paramount concern to emergency first responders. Joint efforts have concentrated on developing mechanisms for emergency first responders to quickly and affirmatively receive pinpoint weather data at the location of an incident to take appropriate actions. One of these mechanisms include AccuWeather.com’s mobile weather application, Premium V4, which provides highly localized on-scene information such as temperatures, wind speeds, humidity levels, and severe weather warnings.

ORI’s unique software program, the Operation Respond Emergency Information System (OREIS™), is made available only to emergency response organizations. The system offers quick, accurate response guidance for identifying chemicals being transported over the railways in tank cars. This allows responders to save time and lives in an incident. OREIS™ Mobile is the new, wireless version of the software.

“AccuWeather is very proud to partner with the ORI,” said David Mitchell, Director of Wireless Services at AccuWeather.com. “This partnership exemplifies AccuWeather.com’s mission: to save lives, protect property, and help people to prosper.”
