Analysys Mason develops ambitious and far-reaching broadband plan for Qatar
LONDON, UK, 9 May 2013 – Qatar’s first national broadband plan was released today for public consultation by the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR).
The plan, developed by Analysys Mason, global telecoms, media and technology specialists, provides guidelines and actions that Qatar will need to take in the future to realise the potential that broadband technology can bring.
Analysys Mason has an extensive track record in delivering national broadband plans across a diverse range of markets, and has also advised the European Commission on its Digital Agenda for Europe initiative, which has high-speed broadband networks at its heart.
“Qatar’s national broadband plan represents a commitment by authorities to provide high-quality, high-speed, affordable broadband services, which are essential for encouraging future innovation, economic diversification and a knowledge-based economy,” explains Dr Matt Yardley, Partner at Analysys Mason, who led the work for ictQATAR.
The national broadband plan is aligned with other national initiatives and events including:
- objectives of Qatar’s National ICT Plan 2015, which calls for achieving ubiquitous, high-speed broadband access for households and businesses (95 per cent)
- Qatar’s National Vision 2030, and
- the FIFA World Cup in 2022 – ensuring that the opportunities available are maximised.
All stakeholders and interested parties are invited to comment on the proposed plan and provide feedback to ictQATAR by Wednesday 29 May 2013.
