The Port Hosts Second Annual “EXPLORE YOUR PORT, WORLD, FUTURE”
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Port Corpus Christi will host more than a thousand high school students from the Coastal Bend Region as part of its second annual “EXPLORE YOUR PORT, WORLD, FUTURE” program. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19 at the Solomon P. Ortiz International Center located at 402 Harbor Drive.
“EXPLORE YOUR PORT, WORLD, FUTURE” is an employee-driven program aimed at showcasing the diversity of opportunities available for the future of the region’s students and helping them to make some important career choices. For the last nine months, Port staff have been working on ways to illustrate to the students the tasks required to fulfill each part of the Port’s mission. “Port employees are proud of the creation of this opportunity; it will help area students to see the applied knowledge and skills required for the different jobs related to Port business,” said John LaRue, Port Executive Director.
The Port will provide booths for the following departments: Bulk Terminal, Business Development, Communications, Engineering & Environmental, Executive Director & Government Affairs, Finance & Accounting, Harbor Master & Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Maintenance, and Police & Security. Along with the Port, a number of companies and organizations that either utilize Port services and/or support its mission will also participate. They include Oil-Spill Control Association; Texas A&M National Oil Spill Control; NuStar Energy; BNSF Railways; Customs Border Protection – Field Operations; Border Patrol; and Air & Marine Patrol; U.S. Coast Guard; Corpus Christi Police Department; Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries; Refinery Terminal Fire Company; Del Mar College Craft Training Center, Del Mar College Transportation Services, Revolution Energy, Texas Department of Transportation; Gulf Compress; Texas General Land Office; Bay LTD.; West Star Foods; National Weather Service; Texas State Technical College; Ovations; Christus Spohn Health Systems; and MD&R Advertising.
Area high schools who will participate in this program are Carroll, Coles, King, Miller, Moody, and Ray from the Corpus Christi Independent School District. Also Ingleside, Calallen, Bishop, Odem-Edroy, Robstown, West Oso, Sinton, Flour Bluff, Gregory Portland, Taft, and Tuloso Midway High Schools from cities around the Coastal Bend Region.
