IceWarp: We Supported IPv6 Long Before Official Launch June 6, 2012
Springfield, VA – June 5, 2012 – IceWarp has announced today it has been successfully supporting the yet-to-be permanently enabled IPv6 long before the protocol’s upcoming final launch on June 6, 2012. The global messaging and collaborations solutions provider developed IPv6 compatibility for its flagship product back in 2006 and was using it in real-life scenarios.
“IceWarp Messaging Server was built from ground up to be fully compliant with the universally accepted standards,” says Ladislav Goc, IceWarp President. “When the new standard IPV6 only appeared in the pipeline, we spared no development effort to make sure our solutions are compatible with it. That is why we were perfectly sure our clients will suffer no disruptions when they transition to IPv6.”
Major Internet service providers (ISPs), home networking equipment manufacturers, and web companies around the world are coming together to permanently enable IPv6 for their products and services by June 6, 2012. IPv4, the previous version, only supports approximately four billion IP addresses. But due to the “explosion” of people, devices, and web services now accessing the global network, that large number is nearly depleted. To resolve this, a next-generation protocol — IPv6 — is slowly being introduced. It will be able to provide trillions of addresses, which should be enough to sustain the Internet’s indefinite growth.
Marcel Klebl, CEO of i-TEC Innovative Technologies GmbH in Switzerland, was using IceWarp Server with the IPv4 protocol for eight years, then decided to add also IPv6 protocol in 2011 to gain the necessary experience and just to try it out.
“It was really simple: I just had to activate a checkbox in the administration console to setup IPv6 for the Icewarp Server,” says Mr. Klebl. “After activating the new protocol mode, I could immediately see who of my e-mail partners are already using IPv6 to send and receive e-mail, and who is still using the previous IPv4 protocol.”
“Of course your whole network and system, including DNS servers, have to be configured correctly to use IPv6 protocol,” continues Mr. KLebl. “But to do this activation on the IceWarp Server was really simple. I was astonished that the IceWarp server is already fully supporting IPv6 protocol at the time when other solutions where not even aware of it. This shows the company’s sensitivity to changes in markets and IceWarp technology’s capability to adopt things really quickly.”
Strict standard’s compliance is the corner stone of IceWarp’s development philosophy. “We run away from proprietary clients like the Devil runs from Holy Water,” continues Mr. Goc. “That helps us guarantee support of all standards-based devices, even those on the drawing boards.”
