LTE WORLD SUMMIT DOUBLES IN SIZE SECURING RECORD ATTENDANCE
25 May 2011 – A record attendance of more than 1,750 attendees from 110 countries and more than 144 different operators – including 85 of the top 100 global operators – has cemented the LTE World Summit as the world’s leading industry event for LTE and plans are already afoot to build on this in 2012.
Delegates to the LTE World Summit 2011, which took place last week in Amsterdam, in association with strategic partner, 3GPP, were treated to engaging presentations from more than 190 influential speakers and case studies from more than 100 global operators.
Martin Harriman, EVP at LightSquared took part in a keynote panel discussion on day two looking at the lessons learned from LTE Deployments to date. He was delighted with the response to his address: “The keynotes were full – there were no spare seats. The level of engagement has been excellent.”
More than a third of the delegates at the event were board-level, VP or above and it was this high quality audience that attracted Christopher Kimm, VP of Network Field Operations EMEA and Asia Pacific at Verizon, who gave a keynote presentation on day one, to the show: “The event gives us a chance to network with our peers and the industry; share a little about what we’ve seen in the real world and talk about some of the challenges of tomorrow.”
Denis Gautheret, VP of NGMN Introduction at Deutsche Telekom, one of the event’s host operators, added: “It’s important to listen to the industry, our competitors and the suppliers to understand where we are.”
The winners of the LTE Awards were also announced at the LTE World Summit 2011 during an exclusive gala dinner where Huawei and Gemalto came home with the spoils after securing two awards each. Other winners were Alcatel Lucent, NSN, Samsung, Qualcomm and TeliaSonera who won the prestigious award for significant progress for a commercial LTE launch by an operator.
Giles Cummings, events director at Informa Telecoms & Media, commented: “There was a great mix of debate and industry commentary this year from our speakers and delegates alike. Our popular speaker line up and the addition of roundtables, panel discussions and LTE Masterclasses to the agenda has helped us more than double the size of the event.
“We have already started planning for the 2012 event and 82 per cent of the exhibitors re-booked on site for next year. LTE World Summit will move to Spain in 2012 and will take place on 23 and 24 May at the CCIB in Barcelona.”
